Dallas County Approves 15.4% Property Tax Rate Increase

O’Connor discusses how Dallas County approved 15.4% for property tax rate increase.

DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, September 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ —

Dallas County Commissioners voted 3-2 Tuesday, Aug. 11, to adopt a property tax rate of $0.248650 per $100 of taxable value for 2026, up from $0.215500 in 2025. The new rate represents an increase of approximately 15.4%.

The increase comes after commissioners adopted a fiscal year 2027 budget that will raise approximately $189.4 million more in property-tax revenue than the previous year, an increase of 22.51%.

The new rate applies to the Dallas County portion of property taxes. Other local taxing entities, including cities and school districts, set their own property tax rates.

According to Dallas County, an average home valued at $350,000 will experience an annual increase of approximately $116.03 on the Dallas County portion of its property tax bill.

Dallas County also reports that the median homestead taxable value is expected to increase from $259,385 in 2025 to $268,056 in 2026. At the adopted county tax rate, the tax on that median homestead would increase from $558.97 to $666.52.

“The tax increase approved by Dallas County is regrettable. Texans are already facing a high tax burden, and continued inflation is putting additional pressure on household budgets. Before raising taxes, the government should consider whether it can meet its needs with a lower amount and avoid placing an unnecessary burden on taxpayers,” said Patrick O’Connor, president of O’Connor.

The adopted rate exceeds the county’s voter-approval tax rate, triggering a tax-rate election scheduled for November 3, 2026. If voters reject the adopted rate, the county’s tax rate will revert to the voter-approval rate.

The adopted rate includes a maintenance-and-operations rate of $0.238566 and an interest-and-sinking/debt rate of $0.010084.

The increase does not mean every homeowner will see the same change in their property tax bill. The $116.03 estimate applies only to the Dallas County portion of the bill, and individual property owners may see a different change depending on their property’s taxable value and applicable exemptions.
