LOS ANGLES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA), Director Haedon Lee, will present “Concert 250: Sounds of Korea & America” on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Zipper Hall at the Colburn School in downtown Los Angeles.
Held in celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence, the special concert commemorates the longstanding friendship and cultural ties between the Republic of Korea and the United States. Through music, the program will reflect on the shared history, friendship, and cultural exchange that have brought the two countries closer together.
The concert will bring together Korean and American classical musicians based in Southern California, presenting music that reflects the rich musical traditions and contemporary artistic sensibilities of both countries. By bringing together musicians from different cultural backgrounds on one stage, the concert aims to create a meaningful artistic dialogue and celebrate the power of music to foster understanding and connection.
The program will feature iconic American classical and jazz repertoire, including Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing),” and George Gershwin’s “Summertime” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.”
Korean repertoire will include beloved Korean art songs such as “As Spring Comes Across the River,” “Long for Mount Geumgang,” “First Love,” and “Woonden Tombstone.” The concert will conclude with newly arranged versions of “Arirang” and “God Bless America,” symbolizing the musical friendship and harmony between Korea and the United States.
The concert will feature a distinguished group of Korean and American musicians active throughout Southern California. Artistic Director Jinyoung Jang, who studied voice at Seoul National University College of Music, served with the Knoxville Opera Studio and as a Resident Artist with LA Opera, and currently serves as an adjunct professor at Antelope Valley College, will lead the program.
Joining him will be Jon Lee Keenan and Wooyoung Kim, both active with the LA Master Chorale, as well as Maria Ramirez, who has performed leading roles with Portland Opera and has appeared as a soloist in numerous oratorio performances.
The instrumental ensemble will include the Trio Barclay, led by violinist Dennis Kim, concertmaster of Pacific Symphony; the Colburn Brass Quintet; and oboist Connor Shim, a 2026 Music Center Spotlight Finalist. Together, the artists will present a diverse program celebrating the musical traditions of both nations.
