The list is created and conducted by the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA), an affiliate organization of the American Retirement Association, a non-profit association. Established in 2017, nominees had to be individual advisor team/offices with a defined contribution book of business. Winners are ranked based upon self-reported defined contribution Assets Under Advisement (AUA) as of 12/31/25. To be considered, nominees had to submit responses to an application form, including information about their practices, notably their defined contribution (DC) assets under advisement (minimum of 100 million AUA). In 2026, there were over 400 submissions, and 398 were named to the list released on 3/18/2026.
