Houston Nonprofit Marks 10 Years of Bridging the Education-to-Employment Gap
Houston, United States – April 4, 2026 / BridgeYear /
HOUSTON, TX – BridgeYear, a Houston-based nonprofit committed to helping students discover meaningful career pathways beyond the traditional four-year college degree, is marking a significant milestone with its 10th Anniversary Luncheon, scheduled for April 14, 2026, at The Briar Club in Houston, Texas.
The milestone celebration, presented by The Friedkin Group and Gulf States Toyota, will unite employers, educators, corporate partners, and community leaders to reflect on a decade of workforce development progress while setting a forward-looking agenda for Houston’s emerging generation of skilled professionals.
A Decade of Closing the Education-to-Employment Gap
Over the past ten years, BridgeYear has confronted one of the most pressing challenges facing both students and employers across the Houston region: the persistent gap between education and employment. While mainstream conversations around postsecondary success tend to center on four-year university degrees, BridgeYear has long championed the idea that students deserve access to multiple pathways toward economic mobility and career fulfillment.
“Eighty percent of our graduates not earning a living wage is a clear signal that we need new strategies,” said Victoria Chen, BridgeYear’s Co-Founder and Executive Director. “Over the last decade, we have proven that by providing hands-on exploration and direct connections to employer-led training, we can move the needle on economic stability for Houston’s youth.”
Through carefully developed partnerships with schools and industry leaders across the region, BridgeYear now reaches more than 12,000 young people annually, equipping them with the resources and guidance needed to explore high-demand careers and connect with pathways including certification programs, apprenticeships, and workforce-aligned training opportunities.
Celebrating Proven Programs and Future Vision
The luncheon will spotlight the growth of BridgeYear’s comprehensive ecosystem, which bridges the gap between school systems and the real hiring demands of the Houston economy. Among the key milestones achieved over the past decade are:
- Career Test Drive®: Immersive, hands-on simulations that have enabled thousands of students to experience careers firsthand in fields such as healthcare, skilled trades, and technology before committing to a specific pathway.
- Career Cohorts: A high-touch, personalized program that recently expanded to include BridgeYear’s first employer-led apprenticeship initiative, giving students the opportunity to earn income while building valuable professional skills.
- MorePathways®: A digital career navigation tool functioning as a “GPS” for workforce readiness, connecting more than 25,000 unique users to vetted, affordable training programs aligned with local employer needs.
A Community Call-to-Action
The 10th Anniversary Luncheon is structured to move attendees beyond simple awareness and inspire meaningful, lasting investment in Houston’s workforce future. The city’s economy continues to face growing talent shortages across critical sectors including healthcare support, automotive technology, and technical services. BridgeYear’s collaborative model stands as a proven example of how Houston employers play an active and critical role in preparing the next generation of the workforce.
By engaging with BridgeYear, employers gain early access to motivated, career-focused talent from across the Houston area, directly addressing the skilled labor shortage while simultaneously providing students from underserved communities with a clear roadmap to middle-class economic stability.
Join the Movement
Community leaders and employers throughout the Houston region are encouraged to attend the luncheon and discover how their participation can make a direct and measurable difference in the city’s economic mobility landscape.
